Shark lovers, parents of shark lovers, or those as obsessed with shark week as I am – today’s DIY project is for you!

When Shark Week comes around, the only channel on in our house is the Discovery Channel. And my excitement for this fintastic week is apparently pretty contagious because our daughter is obsessed with it, too. We usually watch as many of the non-scary specials as we can as a family and then Nathan and I finish the rest on our own.

So shark week themed gifts are SO a thing in our house. But even if you’re not a die-hard fan of shark week, this DIY soap gift idea can still float your boat. Especially if you’re looking for unique shark gift ideas that shark lovers of all ages will appreciate.

Which is where this super cute soap shark comes in.

And while this will definitely make super cute shark gifts for kids, I also think it makes a fun shark birthday gift idea or just because gift for fellow shark lovers.

Shark Soap Steps

Step 1: Add 1/4 pound of the Melt and Pour Soap into the measuring cup. Melt this in the microwave in 30 second bursts, stirring after each burst, so you don’t overcook it. Repeat this process until it’s completely melted.

Step 2: Mix in the dried orange peel to the melted Melt and Pour Soap.

Step 3: Pour the soap and orange peel mixture evenly into each of the six cavities of the soap mold. Allow to dry for at least 30 minutes or until the soap has completely hardened.

Step 4: Add the remainder of the Melt and Pour Soap to the measuring cup. Melt like you did before in Step 1 – 30 second bursts, stirring after each 30 second burst. Repeat until it’s melted completely.

Step 5: Set aside 1/4 cup of the melted soap. In the remaining soap, mix in the fragrance oil, blue mica powder, and the blue cosmetic glitter.

Step 6: Spray your soap molds with the rubbing alcohol. (This will help prevent bubbles on the bottom of the soap and help the layers stick to each other.)

Step 7: Pour the blue soap mixture into your molds and spray the top of the soap with rubbing alcohol. Allow to harden for at least 3 hours or until completely hardened/firm. Gently remove from the mold when they’ve firmed up.

!! IMPORTANT !!

Before you move on to the next couple of steps for the whipped soap top, please read this.

You will need to work quickly once you start the whipped soap process. Once you’ve got it to the consistency that you desire (Step 11), you have approximately five minutes before the whipped base starts to harden.

!! IMPORTANT !!

Step 8: Add the whipped soap base and glycerin to a mixing bowl and mix for one minute.

Step 9: Fold the cornstarch into the mixture, a little bit at a time. (This will help prevent it from flying up when you use the mixer.)

Step 10: Add the 1/4 cup of Melt and Pour Soap that was set aside to the mixture. Mix for one minute.

Step 11: Add in the white cosmetic glitter to the mixture and beat the mixture until peaks form. (If you’ve had meringue, then it should look like that.) If the frosting doesn’t seem thick enough, add a little bit more cornstarch. Mix in thoroughly and repeat until the mixture is firm.

Step 12: Add the frosting to your piping bag and frosting tip. Spray the soaps with the rubbing alcohol to help the whipped soap adhere to the top. Pipe the frosting onto the soap to look like little waves.

Step 13: Add the sharks to the top of the whipped soap and press down slightly to ensure that they stay put.

That’s it!

I know it may seem like a lot of steps for these little shark soaps, but it’s so worth it! And it’s just a lot of little steps to compile an amazing finished product that will be one of the coolest shark gift ideas around.
