Make Your Own Homemade Shampoo

How To Make Your Own Hair Spray

One thing I love (probably one of the BIGGEST things I love) about running The Gnarly Whale is being able to personally use the products on a daily basis and refill them whenever I need to. I’ve traded in a lot of my beauty products for the products we make and have even introduced new products into my routine just because I always had the ingredients/products on hand.

I also love being the guinea pig when it comes to product development. And from time to time, I like to borrow a few ingredients we have for other products that I feel like trying out just for personal use. Banana face masks anyone? Love em! I figured it’s time I start sharing the recipes I love with everyone and wanted to start with a super simple, awesome recipe for your own hair spray! The main ingredients are ones that most people will have in their cupboards already and the optional ingredients just kick it up a notch!

DIY Flexible Hold Hair Spray
Quick and easy hair spray to make at home
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tbsp White Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Alcohol I used Pineapple Coconut Rum
Optional Ingredients
  • 10 drops Essential Oil or Fragrance
  • 1/2 tsp Coconut Oil
Instructions
  1. Boil the water and mix in the sugar until it dissolves.
  2. Add in the alcohol. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Add in the fragrance and coconut oil (optional.)
  4. Let cool to room temperature and enjoy!
Recipe Notes

If you use a flavored rum like I did, you'll get the scent of the rum and won't need to add as much or any fragrance.
The amount of sugar used will change the hold of the hair spray. Use more sugar for a stronger hold, less for a lighter hold.
