What is an herbal bath?

Herbal bath tea, also known as tub tea, is a soothing bath with an herbal tea bag. The awesome thing is that the components of herbal bath bags can easily be the same as the herbs you use in your favorite cup of herbal tea.

The difference is that tub tea bags, or DIY bath bags, are used in the bathtub with a muslin bag that serves as the tea bag. Therapeutic baths are easy to come by with bath tea bags because they can be created to target the specific physical or mental issues you wish to address.

How do you make an herbal bath? How do you make tub tea?

Herbal bath tea bags are really simple to make. All you need is a muslin bag to serve as the tea bag and all of the ingredients that you plan to use for your tub tea.

Other bath tea ingredients outside of dried herbs include:

  • Epsom salt: the ultimate herbal bath addition as it can help aid in the relief of insomnia, aching muscles, bruises, sprains, and more.
  • Powdered milk: great for helping exfoliate and renew the skin
  • Coconut oil: coconut oil has fantastic moisturizing benefits. It can be used in conjunction with epsom salt for a detox bath.
  • Oatmeal: oatmeal is a great option for helping to relieve dry or itchy skin.
  • Honey: combined with milk, milk and honey baths can have rejuvenating properties that can aid in relieving skin irritations.
  • Essential Oils: choose essential oils that can aid in whatever is ailing you: mood, skin care, sleep, energy, and pain relief.

While these extra ingredients can provide extra relief or relaxation, the only things you truly need for an herbal bath are herbs. Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, mix them together and then place them in the muslin bag.

You can use equal parts of your favorite herbs or try different ratios of herbs for unique herbal relief with your flower bath.

Make sure you don’t fill the muslin bag of herbs too full or it may open up. This isn’t harmful to you, but it can clog your drain and leave you with a bit more mess to clean up.

Another option is to make a large batch of the tub tea recipe in a container with a scoop to store it in. Then, whenever you are ready for that soothing bath, you can scoop out what you need into a muslin bag.
