Living a renewable lifestyle doesn’t have to be hard. These easy challenges make greener choices easier and help you feel happier!
When Nathan and I moved out of the city, we did it with the hope that it would make us happier. It has in so many ways, but it’s also allowed us to become more eco-concious. I fully believe you can do this wherever you live, but the way of life that we’ve chosen now has made it even easier.
By living in our small, unincorporated town – it’s really shown us how we can able renewable lifestyle behaviors into our life. And it’s not like they’re hard changes either. They’re simple habits that leave huge impacts on the Earth. I love that these habits are easy to manage and help protect the Earth’s resources.
While there are a TON of ways to you adapt your lifestyle to make it more renewable, I partnered with Tetra Pak to push ourselves to live an even more renewable lifestyle with some fun (and easy!) challenges.
GROCERY SHOPPING: CHOOSE RENEWABLE PACKAGING
I loved this challenge! It’s a BIG one for me as I didn’t really think twice about the packaging our products are in. We bought what we needed, regardless of the size or type of packaging. This challenge really made me think about what we buy and how we can reduce our footprint with our purchases.
I got to check out some of the Tetra Pak carton packaging and I am in LOVE with their packaging. Tetra Pak carton packaging is mostly made from paper, which is a renewable resource that can be naturally replenished. Not only that, but I love how these fit in our fridge and our pantry.
TAKE SHORTER SHOWERS
This one is such a simple one to do and it’s something I’ve already been incorporating for awhile. However, I tend to slip a bit during the Winter months. I spend a bit too much time in there during the colder months trying to warm up so it was a nice reminder to cut my shower time a little shorter.
It was probably one of the harder challenges for me this time of the year, but I’m glad I did it! It cut down my getting ready time and helps the environment so all in all, it was a great move!
BIKE/WALK INSTEAD OF DRIVING
One thing I love about our house location is that we’re just a few blocks off the main shopping in our down. Our post office, grocery store, and even a few restaurants are all within walking distance. Whenever we can, we love taking walks with the dogs and grabbing our groceries or stopping by the post office to drop off some packages.
When the weather doesn’t allow it, we always try to combine our trips so we’re not running errands multiple times a week. Combining our errands cuts down on drive time and gas which is a big win for greener living.
SWAP YOUR PAPER COFFEE CUP FOR A MUG
So I have to admit that this one wasn’t much of a challenge for me. I swapped my paper coffee/tea cups for my to-go mug a long time ago to be a bit more eco-friendly. It’s such an easy swap and it leads to SO much less waste. Plus, I love having my own mug that keeps things warmer (or colder during the Summer!) longer. And I never have to look for a trash can for the paper cup.
All of these challenges felt fairly simple for me. I didn’t have to change products, spend extra money, or do anything that drastic that left me missing my old habits. They all left me feeling happier and reminded me that it’s simple to do things that are beneficial for the Earth.
