Essential oils are a staple for the natural home. They have SO many uses, making them a staple for those that prefer natural remedies like our family.

A few years ago, I got a pretty severe burn from a pan in our oven. Not go to the hospital bad, but it still hurt and it definitely didn’t look pretty. I needed some relief so I searched the internet, trying desperately to find
what essential oil is good for burns. The only one I had on hand was lavender essential oil so I gave it a try.

I added a few drops to a carrier oil, rubbed it on and was amazed at how quickly it healed. It also didn’t even leave a scar! This was one of my first glimpses of seeing how beneficial essential oils could be for first aid.

Over the years, I was able to figure out some the best essential oils for burns that we added to our home apothecary. I was even able to figure out some of the best essential oils for scrapes as well as I seem to have a knack for clumsiness. Here are some of the best essential oils for these types of first aid treatments.

Calendula

Calendula essential oil is a great option for treating minor burns. Calendula is commonly used in homeopathic creams for burns, but the pure essential oil can also be used as long as it’s mixed with a carrier oil. Calendula essential oil has natural anti-inflammatory properties and helps promote healing for minor burns, cuts, scrapes, chafing, and even sunburns.

This is one of my top choices for essential oils for burns and it’s a must-have for your family’s natural first aid kit!

It also helps to promote cells and tissue regrowth and regeneration in a burn site helping to speed up the healing process; this is also important in helping to reduce scarring in the affected area.

Lavender

Lavender essential oil is also one of the best essential oils for burns. It has antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal properties and aids in speeding up the healing process. Lavender essential oil is also anti-inflammatory and analgesic which can aid in pain relief.

I like to keep a Lavender Roll-On with me when we’re on the go. It’s great for stress, scrapes, burns, muscle fatigue, and more. It’s already pre-diluted, too, so it’s ready to use whenever it’s needed.

Rosemary

Rosemary essential oil has a lot of the same healing properties that lavender essential oil has. It’s great for healing deep wounds and treating scrapes that also result in bruising. It aids in reducing muscle pain while promoting healthy circulation.

Clary Sage

Clary Sage essential oil is another great option for burns and scrapes. It’s similar to lavender in that it has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. It’s a natural antiseptic and can aid in relieving pain where swelling has occurred. Clary Sage essential oil also helps reduce the appearance of scars.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus essential oil has antimicrobial and antiseptic properties that help clean and heal a burn or scrape by helping to prevent an infection. It also has anti-inflammatory and pain reducing properties.

Eucalyptus and Tea Tree essential oils are also great for naturally repelling mosquitoes.

Tea Tree

Tea Tree essential oil helps reduce the burning sensation that comes with burning your skin making it a good choice for pain relief. It also has antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-fungal properties. Tea Tree helps clean wounds and also helps prevent infection while aiding in speeding up the healing process.

Frankincense

Frankincense is another essential oil with antiseptic properties. It can help speed up the healing time for burns and scrapes while decreasing the risk of infection at the same time. Frankincense essential oil can also reduce redness around scars and the visibility of scars.

Other essential oils for burns and scrapes include Geranium, Peppermint and Roman Chamomile. Be sure to follow the recommendations in this introduction to essential oils if you’re applying these essential oils directly to your skin.
