This is the first year we’re actually going beyond an herb garden and I am really excited about it! Unfortunately, we’re still in the planning stages of our land, including the area where we hope to build a raised garden bed. Since we’re a bit behind with the building of our garden, we’ve started container gardening with easy fruits and vegetables for the beginner gardener. Since this was our first year with true gardening, I wanted to make sure I didn’t start with anything I couldn’t handle. I’m not a natural green thumb so I opted for fruits and vegetables that were pretty hearty, easy to maintain, and would yield food before the end of the Summer. We’ve started with a couple varieties of tomatoes, some peppers, strawberries and some raspberry bushes. But there are plenty more! Here’s a short list of some easy fruits and vegetables for the beginner gardener:
Most of these can thrive in container gardening which is great for those with small homesteads or if you haven’t quite had the time to build that perfect garden yet. Luckily, this list encompasses most of the fruits and vegetables that we would have planted anyway so we may expand our containers pretty quickly. I’d love to add some cucumbers, carrots, lettuce and spinach for salads over the Summer. But now I want to know:
