This five minute cherry vanilla chia applesauce is sure to be a hit with the whole family! It’s an easy, delicious snack packed with powerful ingredients!
Happy Thursday friends!
So, for the past month for the most part, I have had no idea what day it was. Or the date. Or any concept of time. Between the pregnancy, treating Meg’s cancer (which I am SO excited to share more about on the blog as we found a wonderful vet), wholesale orders for The Gnarly Whale, and some holidays thrown in there – I pretty much have zero concept of time.
Except for today!
Today is staple removal day for our Meg and I’ve got everything crossed in hopes that A) they can be removed despite a little swelling yet and B) it goes smoothly. I woke up and remembered exactly what day it was for once, then promptly remembered I needed to get the Maker’s Mix-Up post up since I fell asleep while trying to work on the post yesterday.
So, back to today’s post: Cherry Vanilla Chia Applesauce!
I don’t know how common this type of recipe is, and I don’t even remember where I found out about it, but it’s been while since I’ve made it. And when it come to this week’s theme for Maker’s Mix-Up (which is Cherry) – I knew exactly what I wanted to do. We had some delicious dark sweet cherries in the freezer that were just waiting for this, I think.
And before I get into the recipe, know this: it’s not really applesauce. The texture is super close, but there are no apples. You can make it with apples if you cook them and substitute them for the cherries, but this cherry vanilla applesauce is not your traditional applesauce in any way. Mostly because of the no apple thing, but also because it only takes about an hour to prepare from start to finish and most of that time is cooling time in the fridge.
This Cherry Vanilla Chia Applesauce is made with chia seeds which recreate the texture of traditional applesauce. If you’re unfamiliar with chia seeds or if you’ve turned your nose at them for awhile, now is the time to get introduced to them! These little things are one of my absolute favorite superfoods. Chia seeds have so many benefits like fiber, antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and more.
So when you pack these seeds with a whole two other ingredients, you’ve got an easy healthy recipe that is a perfect snack or even a yummy dessert.
